Delivering produce to the Jack in the Green

A delegation from InFocus visited the Jack in the Green last week with a fresh delivery of vegetables grown by young people with vision impairment and complex needs.

Patrick Phillips (InFocus Charity Project Manager – West Hill) and former student (and current volunteer) Ruairi Corr met Craig Griffin (Head Chef, Jack in the Green) to hand over the latest crop of rocket and Swiss chard. Produce from our outdoor learning centre at nearby West Hill (near Ottery St Mary) is used by Craig and his team of chefs to create delicious dishes on the popular gastropub’s menu.

This time Craig was waiting with two appetisers from a previous delivery, with a tasty soup and freshly-baked tart, both made using squashes and chillis grown by young people from our charity.

Craig the chef with Ruairi outside the pub. The cups of soup and the tartlets are on boards in front of them.

The outdoor learning centre at West Hill offers forest school activities, tree planting, growing produce in polytunnels and a new kitchen garden, and herb cultivation. Helping to increase the biodiversity of the site. Organic vegetable production is another important activity.

Staff and volunteers work together to complete core infrastructure projects as part of our plans to develop the site.
