The InFocus Student Village allows our college students to experience independence in a supported environment.
We pride ourselves on creating a warm family environment providing security and community for young people who may be away from home for the first time. New arrivals quickly become part of the InFocus family and are encouraged and supported to keep in touch with home.

We provide them with a secure and supportive community so that they feel comfortable and safe when away from home. From the moment of their arrival, students are quickly welcomed into the InFocus family and supported in keeping in touch with their families.
We understand that being away from home can be daunting for many young people. That is why we provide a comprehensive range of services to ensure that our students can enjoy their stay with us.
Accommodation options vary, from a smaller house for 4-5 people, to larger group living environments or a shared flat. Towards the end of their time in our College some of our students may transition into Supported Living accommodation or our adult residential care settings like St David’s House.
What’s it like inside?
All residential areas are designed and planned to assist young people and adults to function effectively in their living space.
All students have their own bedroom and are encouraged to personalise these spaces and make them their own. The residential areas are also specifically designed to support the individual’s mobility and visual impairment needs, with ceiling hoists and other assistance provided where necessary.
Students have access to shared kitchens, dining areas, lounges, and laundry rooms, making it easy to socialise with their peers while attending to day-to-day life skills.
Showers and bathrooms all have adapted facilities that encourage independence.
Living at InFocus
The Student Village is at the edge of InFocus’s 14 acre site at the edge of the city of Exeter. There is plenty of outdoor space, including the neighbouring Discovery Garden (a sensory space, horticulture project and social area combined into one).
Our in-house catering team assists with meal preparation and is available to prepare meals and special diets as required. We also encourage our students to prepare their own meals and develop their independent living skills as they move through the College and prepare for adulthood.
During the evenings and weekends the residential staff team help to organise trips and activities with the students. There are also plenty of opportunities to explore Exeter city centre and get out into the Devon countryside, as well as lots of socialising around the campus!
Children benefit from being care for by staff who know them well and with whom they have built strong, trusting relationships.

What support is available?
The InFocus Student Village team is on-site 24/7 to provide assistance and advice whenever needed. Our experienced team of residential carers help our students with everyday tasks, such as personal care, medication, entertainment, and socialisation’. We also provide personalised support programmes tailored to the individual’s needs to ensure that our students are supported in achieving their personal goals.
All of our staff are fully qualified and experienced in providing support to people with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health issues.
Building learning skills
At InFocus, we understand that learning should not be limited to the classroom. That is why our residential staff team are dedicated to helping students build important skills in communication, numeracy, literacy, and daily living for life after college.
We also provide a variety of programmes and activities aimed at developing independence, communication, social interaction and leisure skills. These include regular one-to-one sessions as well as group activities such as games nights, film screenings and outings.
