InFocus Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the InFocus website: infocus-charity.org.uk
This website is run by InFocus. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
My Computer My Way has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. You can see a full list of any issues we currently know about in the on-accessible content section of this statement.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
InFocus is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- On the home page, presented news and events tiles include arrow icons which duplicate the alt text of the main tile making the experience overly verbose. All other news and event tiles do not do this and offer a more accessible experience. Some decorative quotation marks are being incorrectly given autogenerated alt text by iOS VoiceOver and described as 66 rather than being marked as decorative. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).
- Forms across the website do not always have consistently related labels and form fields which may cause some users challenges in completing newsletter sign up, donations or job applications. Some lists, error messages, and sub navigation elements do not correctly identify their relation to each other or currently selected elements. Tags sidebar content for mobile screen reader users is not identified correctly giving erroneous list quantities. On iOS lists are not read giving full contextual information e.g. list 7 items, item 1 of 7 etc. Donate payment fields are not correctly described to Android users on mobile. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
- Some forms across the website do not correctly offer autocomplete options for common form fields. This fails WCAG 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (AA).
- On occasion, colour is used as the only differentiator for some sub navigation elements, without text alternative to notify of currently selected elements. Colour is also used on some sidebar content as the only differentiator for links. This fails WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Color (A).
- There are a variety of text colour contrast issues across the website. Some of these are related to brand colours, while others may be with visual error messages, or focussed element states. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA).
- At higher magnifications and in landscape orientations on mobile devices, the navigation banner and donate button take up significant portions of the screen and either clip or obscure other content, or make swipe moves more difficult on mobile devices. Significant sections of the home page content clip and do not reflow correctly for iOS landscape view on mobile. This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow (AA).
- Regularly across many elements of the website, focus indication is presented as a thin dotted line or a black line. This often contrasts poorly with light and dark surrounding colours making it hard to see. This fails WCAG 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (AA).
- Some Windows users may have difficulty accessing navigation sub menus with keyboard controls. Activating a menu link takes the user to a page where the sub navigations options are displayed in a more accessible way. The date picker in the job application form is not keyboard accessible. Users can enter date manually. Mobile screen reader users cannot navigate and see all menu items. Screen reader users cannot two finger scroll down menu items, and when tabbing through, focus does not follow to items that were originally below the visible page, so users are left navigating elements they cannot see. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).
- On mobile devices while moving through the main navigation menu with a screen reader, the user can move out of the menu without it collapsing which obscures elements and disrupts the reading order. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).
- The InFocus Logo does not receive visible focus indication in the navigation banner. Some call to action links on the home page do not receive focus indication. Drop files here prompts in job application forms do not receive focus indication. Some forms with hidden fields to catch bots are accessible with keyboard controls but do not receive focus. On mobile devices while moving through the main navigation menu with a screen reader, the user can move out of the menu without it collapsing which obscures elements and disrupts the reading order. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).
- For some pages such as News, Events, Blog, Projects, Expertise, Case Studies and others, sub navigation is completely obscured by the navigation banner while receiving focus. On mobile devices while moving through the main navigation menu with a screen reader, the user can move out of the menu without it collapsing which obscures elements and disrupts the reading order. This fails WCAG 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) (AA).
- On many of the forms on both web and mobile, error messages are not clearly identified for screen reader users. This fails WCAG 3.3.1 Error Identification (A).
- Repeat entry of information in the sign up and job application process may be considered a redundant entry failure but is only repetition for a couple of short-form fields. This fails WCAG 3.3.7 Redundant Entry (A).
- Forms across the website do not always have consistently related labels and form fields which may cause some users challenges in completing newsletter sign up, donations or job applications. Several forms are utilising hidden inputs to catch bots but are interactable with keyboard controls which causes confusion. There are several elements of the payment details section of the donate form which are causing significant readability issues for screen readers. Some lists and sub navigation elements do not correctly identify their relation to each other or currently selected elements. Checkbox elements on the College form have incorrect markup. Issues with the YouTube iframe account logo icon and aria-label use outside of the control of this organisation. College prospectus page contains an image link without text alternative or link title. Donate payment fields are not correctly described to Android users on mobile. On iOS the headings that relate to different sections of the Team are not clearly described as interactive but are clickable links. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.
Disproportionate burden
At this time, we have made no claims of disproportionate burden.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. We are currently working on fixing these essential documents or replacing them with accessible html web pages. This work will be completed by 1 February 2024.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. There are currently no known PDFs published before 23 September 2018 on the website.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
3rd party content
Some of our services include third party content which we have no control over such as documents which are sent to us and uploaded as part of pages by members of the public. The accessibility regulations do not require us to manage these kinds of content, but if you have a problem with any of the content hosted on this website, please contact us using the methods above and we will try to help.
Video content
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations. We also have some existing pre-recorded video content that was published before the 23rd September 2020. This content is also exempt from the regulations. All new video content we produce will have appropriate captions, audio descriptions and transcripts as necessary.
Online Maps
Our service includes the use of online maps to show certain geographical information. These are not used for navigational purposes and are exempt under the regulations. If you require the information presented in an online map in a different format, please contact us to discuss reasonable adjustments.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
InFocus is doing the following to improve accessibility:
- Urgently working on fixing the issues raised by All Able in our most recent website accessibility audit.
- Provide training to staff who edit the website on how to meet accessibility requirements.
