Student Testimonials

I go to InFocus College and enjoy it. InFocus helps me with my visual needs such as practicing my braille on my Braille Note, access tech on my phone and braille resources in lessons.

I am learning to improve my independence skills by going into Exeter and the local community.  I am preparing for the future by working on my work skills towards finding a job which interests me in music production.

What I like mostly about being at InFocus is having the opportunity to learn but having lots of fun at the same time. I’ve learnt how to be patient and take other peoples feelings into consideration. I realise that not everybody likes the same things as me.

InFocus has been helping me prepare to be more independent teaching me living skills such as cooking, and domestic jobs around the house. Using my cane on and off-site I am able to use public transport confidently.

Ashleigh, InFocus College student

I like to come to InFocus because it’s lovely here and it’s really good for my personal development. I feel happy here as I learn how to socialise with people, how to control our emotions, how to walk independently by using my cane and so on. I would like to stay and learn touch typing, how to use a screen reader and use my iPad by myself.

Ben, InFocus College student

InFocus College is important to me because if I didn’t come here I might be stuck on how to do things as a blind person and I wouldn’t be able to learn anything for my future.

In college I am learning how to cook some recipes, to go and buy the ingredients, walking there and catch the bus to come back as independently as I can. I am learning to use my phone to find out when to get off. I also have lots of opportunities to do work experience out in the community.

Jess, InFocus College student

Here at InFocus, I really enjoy myself because we have specialist teachers that understand me. I have my own yellow keyboard and things in large print for me. I like doing maths the most, and I have even learned how to count to 100. I like boarding with my friends and cooking in house.

Since I’ve been at InFocus I have learnt how to tie and wash my own hair, which helps me to be more independent for the future. I like the opportunities I get at InFocus which I might not get in another college.

Sienna, InFocus College student

I love being at InFocus and have been here for nearly three years. One main thing I’ve learnt since being here is how to use my cane properly. Mobility has helped me become more independent and more confident.

InFocus helps me prepare for the future by making me more independent and more confident. Being here helps me learn life skills, like understanding money, shopping and cooking. The staff understand me here and they support me well.

William, InFocus College student

I like being at InFocus because I like being able to see my friends every day, I also like the support and help that I’m given here. I like how everyone is friendly and kind. At InFocus I get to practice braille, and I also get to practice my independence skills.

Another main thing I’ve learnt here is mobility, which has helped me learn how to use my cane properly. Mobility has also helped me in knowing how to get into Exeter city centre via a bus. I’ve also learnt how to use many different types of road crossings. Mobility has also helped me to be more independent.

Grace, InFocus College student

I like being at InFocus because it’s very relaxing and calm and it helps me feel ready to learn. I am still quite new here but so far I’ve learned about working in radio, healthy lifestyle and relationships, maths, and many more! It’s a great place for the vision and hearing impaired, and the staff are really kind.

Thomas, InFocus College student

I love being a student at InFocus College! Infocus has helped support my visual impairment by giving me the right equipment and it has helped me learn braille. I have made lots of friends here.

They are helping me decide where I want to live and what job I might like to do in the future. And it is helping me to be independent!
