Supported Internships are structured workplace study programmes tailored for 16-24 year-olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). The primary goal of these internships is to enhance the life prospects of young individuals with SEND, providing them with essential skills and experiences necessary for successful entry into paid employment.

Barriers to Paid Employment

Sadly, statistics reveal that only 4.8% (ref)  of young people with learning disabilities secure paid employment post-education. Barriers to employment include negative attitudes and behaviours, inaccessible technology and workspaces, rigid structures, and a lack of understanding by employers.
