Isaac’s story

Isaac recently completed his college studies at InFocus and now resides in one of our supported living accommodations. During his time at InFocus college, he enjoyed learning about the different kinds of work opportunities that were available. He had various work experiences whilst at college, as Sports Assistant, and in our eBay and local Charity Shops.

Upon completing his studies, Isaac felt ready for the world of work and landed his first job at the local garage. Here he gained valuable customer service skills and soon went on to secure a second volunteer role at Tesco, where he has a number of responsibilities such as stocking shelves, recycling cardboard and helping out on the self service tills.

Most recently, Isaac has independently secured another work opportunity, and has become a Covid volunteer at a vaccination centre. He saw the role advertised on his Nextdoor neighbourhood app and decided to apply. Very soon after his initial meeting, he heard he had got the job and joined a team of local volunteers.

“I saw the role advertised on my Nextdoor neighbourhood app and decided to apply. I went to meet them and two hours later they gave me the job”.

Thanks to his previous experience, Isaac felt confident to approach this role and take on a new set of responsibilities. He has loved meeting new people and learning new skills.

“My colleagues are really friendly, they look out for me and are supportive and we have a lot of fun”.

“It does mean I’m quite busy, as I’m still volunteering at Tesco but I really love working. And I still have time to get my hair cut and play football!”.

At InFocus we recognise that having a vision impairment can make it difficult to get into the world of work. Despite being registered blind, Isaac has thrown himself into all opportunities whole-heartedly, and has shown that his possibilities are endless.

We’re proud to support Isaac’s endeavors and assist him with the skills and foundations he needs to navigate the world of work.

“I’m responsible for greeting people when they arrive, asking them when their appointment is, directing people to the right desk and disinfecting the chairs. My colleagues are really impressed with my work”.
