The Exeter Chiefs Community Coaches visited InFocus this week to experience some of our specialist therapy sessions. In the New Year, the coaches will be back to deliver some VI rugby sessions as part of our character curriculum.

To gain more of an understanding of what a vision impairment might be like for some of the young people at InFocus, the coaches took part in a number of exercises with our Physiotherapists, Mobility and Habilitation officers and Occupational Therapists. Whilst blindfolded, the coaches experienced a Physiotherapy session on Winston, our mechanical horse and a Mobility lesson on how to use a cane to navigate Topsham Road – much harder than you might think!

The coaches were great sports and while things got competitive over a cause and effect activity via an Eyegaze camera, importantly the coaches were able to go away with more of an understanding of some of the challenges our young people face.

We’re looking forward to welcoming them back to InFocus in 2022 for some specialist rugby sessions that we know lots of our young people will love.
