Former pupil Auboné Braddon recently visited InFocus to tell us how he turned his love of classic cars and passion for drawing into an art exhibition with The Crashbox and Classic Car Club of Devon. This is what he had to say:

“Being an ex-pupil of InFocus, formerly The West of England School, back in the 70s and 80s, I have seen many amazing and exciting changes as InFocus has evolved into what we see today. 

My time at the school was an extremely happy one and as I have got older I realise how lucky I was to be educated there. We were always given such a positive outlook and this has certainly helped my life journey. 

I have always focused on what I can do and not what I can’t. Although I am unable to drive, this has not stopped me from owning a classic car and now a large collection of them. 

I have some great friends that drive this collection of Ford Anglia’s for me and was recently asked by The Crashbox and Classic Car Club of Devon to exhibit my Exeter drawings at one of their meetings. Drawing is another of my passions, and I love to get as much detail as possible in my work. 

I really don’t think I would have been able to do this skill without the education and training at InFocus. I was offered a fee for exhibiting my work at the Crashbox meeting so it felt absolutely right to donate it to InFocus.” 

Auboné’s generosity and loyalty will ensure that many more young people will have the same opportunities to achieve.
