Last week, a group of young people from InFocus Charity had the opportunity to embark on an extraordinary sensory virtual holiday experience. Organised by the incredible therapy team as part of the activities month at InFocus, this immersive adventure allowed the participants to explore the tropical island of St David’s. Through a combination of imaginative activities and sensory stimulation, this virtual getaway provided a unique opportunity for the young people to engage with their senses while promoting emotional regulation and well-being.
Aboard InFocus Airlines
The journey began with the young participants eagerly boarding their virtual flight on InFocus Airlines. Equipped with stamped passports and first-class tickets, they prepared themselves for an unforgettable adventure. The virtual flight transported them swiftly to the breath-taking tropical paradise of St David’s, where excitement and anticipation filled the air.
Unleashing the Senses
Upon arrival, the group wasted no time in immersing themselves in the sensory delights that awaited them. The therapy team had meticulously planned a series of activities designed to engage their senses and facilitate emotional and behavioural regulation.
The sunny beach served as the perfect backdrop for sandcastle building, rock pooling, and the cherished tradition of a donkey ride. Each activity provided opportunities for the young participants to explore the textures, sounds, and sights of their surroundings, creating a multi-sensory experience that delighted and engaged them.
Sensory Support at InFocus
The virtual holiday experience showcased the integral role that sensory activities play in the therapy programmes at InFocus. Sensory information processing is a fundamental aspect of supporting the young people in managing their emotions and behaviours effectively. InFocus recognises this and has established an in-house therapy team consisting of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. These dedicated professionals collaborate to develop creative and engaging sensory experiences, such as the virtual holiday, that promote progress and well-being among the young people in their care.

The Power of Sensory Stimulation
Sensory stimulation offers a unique avenue for individuals to connect with their environment and foster emotional regulation. By engaging the senses, young people can enhance their sensory processing abilities and develop strategies for managing overwhelming situations. InFocus Charity understands the importance of integrating sensory activities into their therapy programmes as a means of providing holistic support to the individuals they serve.
Promoting Progress and Wellbeing
The virtual holiday experience served as a testament to InFocus’ commitment to the progress and well-being of their young people. By offering innovative and immersive activities, the therapy team creates an environment where individuals can explore their senses, develop new coping mechanisms, and strengthen their emotional resilience. These experiences not only facilitate growth but also foster a sense of joy, wonder, and belonging among the participants.
