Why volunteer in one of our shops?
Our charity shops are one of the ways in which we are able to provide support for young people with visual impairments and complex difficulties. With your help, we can continue to provide the best support and facilitates for students at InFocus College.
Volunteering at our charity is a fantastic way to give back to the community. Not only does this make you feel good, but it also gives others something to be proud of. Your efforts will go a long way towards making sure that our young people have access to excellent care and education.
We have a range of charity shops located in Exeter and East Devon. Each charity shop offers a wide range of products, such as clothing, books, housewares, toys and games. Our customers appreciate the convenience of shopping at a store close to home, and we enjoy working alongside them to provide a pleasant experience.
What does a charity shop volunteer do?
Our volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that our stores run smoothly, helping to answer customer queries, assist with stock control and manage the shop floor. You’ll also learn new skills and gain valuable experience working in retail, which can lead to future employment opportunities.
As a volunteer, you’ll be responsible for:
- Helping customers find what they need
- Assisting with stock control
- Operating tills
- Organising window displays
- Keeping the shop tidy and well organised
- Sorting donations
- Working alongside our friendly teams
- Answering phones
You don’t need any specific skills to work in one of our charity shops. However, we provide our volunteers with training prior to starting work, giving ongoing support during placements.
The amount of time given by volunteers varies depending on what role you choose. Some of our volunteer team choose to work a certain amount of hours a week, others choose to work more regularly. We offer flexible hours that can be scheduled around your availability.

Please note, volunteers must be aged 18 years or over to volunteer at InFocus social enterprise charity shops.
