InFocus can trace its origins back to 1838-9 when an institution for blind was founded on St David’s Hill in Exeter. Latterly known as the West of England School (and most recently as WESC Foundation), it moved to the charity’s current site at Countess Wear in the 1960s.

Thirty former pupils from the West of England School Association returned to their old school site here at InFocus last weekend. Among the group were pupils who attended the St David’s Hill site, as well as those who came to the West of England School for the Partially Sighted as it was known.

They enjoyed hearing about the charity’s work in 2022 and plans for the future, and took a tour around the site. Many of the buildings are still in use to this day, including the old school gym where the association as founded.

The reunion continued across the weekend including a visit to St David’s Hill and the site of the original school.
