We’re delighted to announce that our residential education provision has been rated “Good” by Ofsted, less than three years after an “Inadequate” judgement. This inspection relates to what Ofsted class as the “Residential Special School”.

Our residential school and college offers “good-quality personalised care and support”, with a “carefully planned bespoke package of care and support” for each young person.

Staff from across InFocus were praised, particularly for their ability to “interpret the often subtle nuances of young people’s communication and respond effectively to meet their needs, often avoiding anxiety and stress…much of the work with young people is exceptional”.

We are particularly pleased that Ofsted recognised that staff are “clear about the process of reporting safeguarding concerns and allegations”, whilst our young people “appear content and happy in the residential home [and]…enjoy their time here”.

Commenting on the news Jane Bell, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“This inspection follows great efforts to address the concerns highlighted by Ofsted during the 2019 inspection. Moving from “Inadequate” to “Good” in one inspection is a great achievement for the whole team, especially those working in our residential accommodation.

InFocus was inspected in February 2022 under the social care common inspection framework. This part of the charity supports young people who have vision impairment and complex needs by offering residential care and education. From Autumn 2022 the residential College will be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), joining our CQC-Outstanding adult residential care home St David’s House.
