In 2018, Morrisons Foundation donated £35k towards a brand new therapeutic sensory room at InFocus. InFocus undertook a full review of sensory stimulation provision for our young people and it became evident that our facilities needing developing. As a result, InFocus applied for funding from Morrisons Foundation charitable trust.

InFocus’s sensory room was redeveloped and old equipment was replaced by brand new therapeutic multi-sensory equipment with a small soft play area and cause and effect sensory activities. Cause and effect are fundamental skills for the young people at InFocus to learn in order to develop language and understand and communicate with the world around them.

The sensory room is used by teachers during a variety of lessons to create a sensory learning environment. This can be used for sessions such as teaching shapes, colours and consequences of actions, or teaching about particular topics such as the rain forest using lights, sounds, smells and textures. The sensory room is a powerful educational tool for young people with little or limited sight and young people at InFocus benefited enormously from the new redevelopments. Benefits included: increased body and spatial awareness, exploring independently in a safe environment and providing a sense of calm and comfort.
