Care and support worker jobs in Exeter

What’s it like to work with people who have a vision impairment?

Most of our new staff come to us with no experience of working with people who have vision impairment, and lots have never worked in care before. We give you a thorough induction and plenty of time to ‘shadow’ another member of staff. Our young people are inspirational to work with, and most people find that they quickly settle in to the InFocus ‘family’.

We help all our new care staff to achieve a Level 3 qualification in health and social care. There’s also a great training package to help you prepare for your career in care at InFocus. Many of our Team Leaders and Care Managers started their career with us as a Support Worker!

The team made me feel so welcome and even though I’ve been there a short time I’ve made friends for life! Being able to support the young people in what they like to do and see them smile is so rewarding.

Megan, new Support Worker

There are a number of roles available to fit around you:

Working during term-time in specialist College

Support workers in our College work during term times to support students aged between 16 and 25. There’s a range of rotas covering the mornings, college day, and into the evenings, but they are all just for term-times, and sometimes just Monday to Friday. There are also extra shifts available during the holidays if you want to work a bit of overtime. No night shifts.

Weekdays working at Jigsaw

The young adults at Jigsaw access that service Monday to Friday, and you’re normally able to finish work by 4.30pm. The service also closes for two weeks each at Easter and Christmas so you’ll also have plenty of time for your family or other commitments. No night shifts!

St David’s House: working with young adults in a residential setting

Most of the young adults who live at St David’s House have finished College. This means that most days you’ll be spending time with them doing what they want to do. It might be a swim in our pool on a Tuesday morning, going into town for a coffee on a Friday afternoon, or heading out to the pub on a Saturday for a drink. No two days are the same! The rolling rota means that you never work for a whole weekend, and you’ll always know your shift patterns a long way in advance. No night shifts!

Waking nights

Many of our young people are residential students. You’ll be working the night shifts looking after the needs of children and young adults across our charity’s residential provision. No two night shifts are the same, but responsibilities include through the night personal care, supporting with morning and night time routines like washing and dressing, and elements of domestic duties including housework and laundry.
